The 2026 ISGP meeting in Cologne, at the German Sport University,  was a great success, bringing together 280 participants for a rich scientific programme, memorable social events and a wonderful atmosphere. Abstract

The projected emergence of fully reusable super-heavy launch architectures in the 2030s will enable mass transit to the Moon and Mars, accelerating the transition from temporary research stations to permanent, multi-national planetary bases. As crew demographics and mission profiles diversify, the pharmacological demands of off-Earth populations will fundamentally shift. Meeting these demands requires proactive, preemptive medical planning before critical gaps arise.

The Case for the Moon — Dr Doug Plata, MD, MPH

About the speaker

Dr Doug Plata is a physician and public health specialist. He is a leading expert in off-Earth healthcare, focusing on how humans can establish sustainable medical systems for long-duration space habitation and lunar development.
